Tomas Dirrix (°1988) graduated with honours as Masters in Architecture from the TUDelft. Previously he studied in Mendrisio, Switzerland and Ahmedabad, India. He worked for various offices in the Netherlands including OMA and diederendirrix, where he has been responsible for the Research and Design department in Rotterdam since 2016.
With his practice Atelier Tomas Dirrix, he operates between architecture, scenography design and installation works. His designs are characterized by a playful attitude towards the making of spaces. He received the Unfair18 Architect Award with his design for the biennial art-exhibition in which 40 young and very promising artists present their newest works, performances and installations.
Tomas Dirrix actively contributes to the architecture discourse in the form of lectures, discussions and to publications such as Building upon Building, and the upcoming edition of What’s in the making II, Architecture with Architects. Tomas Dirrix also co-founded Studio Ossidiana as an organisation for the exploration of architecture through material creation. With his involvement projects have been exhibited at the Dutch Design Week, Salone del Mobile, Het Nieuwe Insituut and Marres House of Contemporary Culture.
He currently teaches a MSc design studio at the TU Eindhoven at the chair of Rational Architecture / Transformational Design and at TU Delft within the department of Interiors, Buildings, Cities
